A to Z of Spiritual Terms and Definitions

A

AFFIRMATIONS
Affirmations are declarations of our worthiest goals.  Repeating those declarations often enough that our subconscious minds accepts them as fact, will guide our behaviour accordingly towards the goal.  Through affirmations we can declare ourselves happier, more positive, healthier, stronger, more successful … the list goes on … whatever it is that will help us love ourselves more.

Positive affirmations align our spirit with the Universe.

AKASHIC RECORDS
The majority of the world’s cultures, faiths and philosophers generally agree that the Akashic Records exist. The Hindus believe in a universal substance call ‘akasha’ – from which the natural elements of water, fire, earth and air were created.

The Akashic Records are perceived to be the collective memories and histories of every thought, physical and emotional vibration, sound, major event, minor incident and all movement in eternity.  The Akashic Records are the entire history of everything that ever has been, and everything that ever will be.  They could be looked upon as a ‘memory bank’ containing details about everything that happens in the Universe, and information about every spirit and the many lives they have lived.

ALCHEMY
Alchemy is the ancient practice in which ‘metallurgy’, medicine, chemistry, religion and mysticism were blended together in an effort to achieve several goals  -  the main one, being to transform base metals into ‘precious’ metals, was symbolic of the alchemist’s hope of bringing the Universe closer to its highest potential  -  physically and spiritually.

Another intention of the ancient alchemist was to discover an elixir that would cure all diseases, and indefinitely extend human life expectancy whilst maintaining optimum health.  They are of the belief that there is an inseparable bond between the physical and the spiritual/metaphysical.

ANKH
The ankh cross is the ancient Egyptian symbol of life and immortality and represents both the physical and eternal life.
The gods and goddesses of Egypt are generally depicted holding this emblem in their hands, often grasping it by the loop as if it were a key;  hence the reason it is sometimes called the ‘Key of Life’ -  the ankh occurs in hieroglyphic inscriptions as the symbol meaning ‘life’.

Some authorities believe the shape of the ankh to symbolize and represent the union of male and female – the creative powers of life.  The looped part of the ankh, with its oval shape, signifies the opening of the vagina – while the T-shaped part is a simplified figure of the penis and testicles.  There are many ancient amulets which were quite openly made in the shape of the human genital organs.  They were considered life symbols and hence ‘luck symbols’.

ARCHETYPES
An archetype is a model or image that portrays a particular and comprehensive idea or concept, eg. the hero, the patriarch, the matriarch etc. An archetype symbolizes the aspects of the Universal human experiences.  Archetypes represent the patterns of influence that are an inherent part of human nature.

ALTERED STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS
An altered state of consciousness is a state in which the mind perceives, conceives and processes information in a different way to which it normally does. Such states include meditation, trances, astral travel, clairaudience, clairsentience, clairvoyance (and other psychic/spiritual/paranormal states) and hypnosis (both regression and otherwise), dreams and daydreams.

Other altered states of consciousness are induced voluntarily, such as ‘recreational’ and prescription drug use and the drinking of alcohol (to an inebriated state).

AMULETS
The wearing of amulets was practiced by all the great ancient civilizations, and especially that of Ancient Egypt from which so many symbols emerge.  Centuries of magical faith and experience support the belief that these legendary luck-bringers can attract good luck or avert misfortune.
The form of many amulets, such as the Ankh cross, the Scarab and the Swastika, goes back to a vast antiquity, as is the belief in the vibrational powers of crystals.

An amulet wards off danger, negative energies and misfortune.  An amulet has always been used for protection, especially against the dreaded power of the ‘evil eye’.

Crystals and gemstones have been used both as amulets.  Given their natural beauty, rarity and value, crystals and precious stones in the ancient cultures were believed to possess intrinsic virtues which radiated their energies to its owner or wearer.  This belief is implicit in the custom of members of the monarchy possessing and wearing crystals in their crown jewels and royal regalia, and in the wearing of rings by bishops and other church dignitaries.  Many historic family heirlooms, especially those of the more Celtic parts of the British Isles, have crystals and gemstones encrusting them.

Apart from precious stones and their virtues, there are time-honoured amulets consisting of things in some form or design which is believed to the ‘magical’.

ANGELS
As the belief in angels continues to grow, people are becoming less reluctant to speak openly about heir encounters with them.

While all entities on the ‘Other Side’ are able to interact with one another, angels are in a league (or realm) of their own, and they differ from Spirit Guides in significant ways.

Angels never incarnate – they never experience life in ‘human’ form. Angels do not review our lifecharts/blueprints before we come here, nor have knowledge of our charts during our lifetime. Depending upon the difficulty of the life we have chosen, we recruit a certain number of angels to oversee our journey – but that number can increase during our times of greatest despair and danger.

Angels assist us with our humanitarian and spiritual efforts.

Spirit Guides and all other transcended spirits are either male or female. In their natural form on the ‘Other Side’ angels are androgynous.

There is an order (or levels) to the population of angels. The higher the level or order, the more powerful the angel.

Angels can advance from one level to another, earning their advancement by their good deeds and their bodies of experience.

The first level of Angels are the one who descend to our dimension most often, to protect and rescue us.

Archangels are the ‘image makers’ and are the ‘messengers’.

The Cherubim and Seraphim are like ‘junior’ Angels.

The Thrones and Principalities are the most powerful of the Angels. Thrones are static, non-active, wisdom keepers, who never descend to our dimension.

Principalities do descend, but only in the most dire of circumstances. Only the Principalities can intervene at a cataclysmic or potentially fatal moment in our lives.

A defining description of every human encounter with an angel, is that the angel came and went without ever speaking a word. Angels are completely non-verbal and communicate through ‘infused knowledge’.

Angels can materialize briefly as anything from a little girl to a kindly old man, or any form that won’t frighten the person they have arrived to help, or that won’t attract too much attention to themselves.  If a stranger suddenly appears, makes some gesture to help and protect you, and then vanishes again without a word before you can thank them, chances are you’ve had help from the ‘Other Side’, in the form of an angel.

The angels know what is the highest best for all better than we do , therefore, sometimes the most loving help they can offer is to stand back and let us have a negative experience so that we are able to learn from our mistakes, and to overcome negativity for the greater knowledge of our spirit.

Angels are always available to help us with all matters – all we need to do is remember to call on them.

APPORT / APPORTATION
The spirit world is able to manipulate physical objects here on earth, often transporting them through space and time so that they appear before us.  This manipulation or ability is called ‘apportation’.

ARMAGEDDON
The word ‘Armageddon’ appears in the Bible in the Book of Revelations, in verse 16:16.  It reads, “And they assembled them at a place which is called in Hebrew Armageddon.”

‘Armageddon’ has become a synonym for the final battle between good and evil that is said will end the world as we know it.

ASTRAL BODY
The Astral Body consists of a subtle energy field of light that encases the physical body. The Astral Body is the fourth layer of the aura.  It is morphous  -  that is, lacking definite shape, and is composed of clouds of colour, more beautiful than those of the emotional body.

The Astral body usually has the same set of colours as the emotional body, but they are mostly infused with the rose colour of Love. This body extends from six to twelve inches from the physical body.

ASTRAL CATALEPSY
Astral Catalepsy is the sensation of the body’s reaction when the spirit either enters or leaves the physical body.

During ‘Astral Travel’ the spirit leaves the physical body.  The vast majority of the time our spirits slip in and out of our bodies very easily without disturbing our sleeping, conscious minds.

On rare occasions though, depending upon the level of sleep the conscious mind happens to be in, the spirit is ‘caught’ either entering or leaving the body.  This gives one the sensation of:

*  shortness of breath, often caused by the sensation of an oppressive weight on the chest.
*  paralysis
*  being touched by something or someone menacing, but invisible.
*  an overwhelming vibration
*  loud noises and/or buzzing
*  the appearance of strange lights
*  a sensation of someone/something sitting on the bed, or moving the bed sheets etc.

ASTRAL PROJECTION
Astral projection is when the spirit temporarily leaves the body.  The spirit is able to leave for a moment; or can project itself to a specific location – which in the dimension of the spirit realm takes no longer than an instant.

ASTRAL TRAVEL
Astral travel is when our spirits take a ‘trip’ away from the physical body.  The spirit is able to take off and visit wherever and whomever we wish.  Astral travel lies at the core of some of our most vivid and memorable dreams.

ASTROLOGY
Astrology is an ancient art charting the cycles of the Universe and the positions of the planets at the time of birth, to forecast, predict and draw a distinct impression of the personality and the Life Path.

The Astrology Chart or Zodiac is made up of twelve Sun or natal signs; each with its own ruling planet and a specific segment of the calendar.

ATLANTIS
According to Plato, 11,000 years ago there was a continent in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean called Atlantis. Through some cataclysmic action, the entire nation and everything on it sank to the bottom of the sea.

Many prophets and philosophers have stated that Atlantis did exist and that it shall rise from the sea and exist again some time in the future.
Apparently the outline of Atlantis can be seen at the bottom of the ocean via satellite images.

AURA
The Aura is sometimes called the ‘etheric substance’ or ‘etheric body’ that surrounds and emanates every living thing.  It is the outer-layer of the electromagnetic energies.

Every aura contains all the colours of the spectrum, but the dominant colours may vary depending upon our physical and emotional health.

Bodies of the Aura

The Etheric Body is the first layer.  It has the same structure as the physical body, including all the anatomical parts and organs.  The web-like structure of the etheric body is in constant motion and to the clairvoyant vision, sparks of bluish-white light move along its energy-lines throughout the entire physical body It extends from one quarter of an inch to two inches from the physical body.

The Emotional Body is the second layer and is associated with feelings.  Its structure is more fluid than the etheric, and it does not duplicate the physical, but instead roughly follows the outline of the physical body. It appears to be coloured clouds of fine substance in continual fluid motion and extends from one inch to three inches from the physical body.

The Mental Body is the third layer.  It extends beyond the emotional body and is composed of still finer substances, all of which are associated with thought and mental processes. This body usually appears as a bright yellow light radiating about the head and shoulders and extending around the whole body. It extends three to eight inches from the physical body.

The Astral Body is the fourth layer.

The Etheric Template Body is the fifth layer, and is so called because if contains all the forms that exist on the physical plane in a ‘blueprint’ form. It looks rather like the negative of a photograph. It is the blueprint or perfect form for the etheric layer to take and it extends from one and a half to two feet from the physical body.

The Celestial Body is the sixth layer and is the emotional level of the Spiritual plane.  It is the level through which we experience Spiritual ecstasy and can be reached through deep meditation and it extends two to two and a half feet from the physical body.

The Ketheric Body or Causal Body is the seventh layer.  This is the mental level of the Spiritual plane. When we bring our consciousness to this level, we know we are at one with the Creator.  It extends from two and a half to three and a half feet from the physical body.

AUTOMATIC WRITING
Automatic writing is writing (or typing) that involves the intuitive mind taking over from the rational mind in order to access and record information.

AZNA
Azna is the ‘Mother God’.  She is the counterpart of the ‘Father God’.  She is the inspiration of the image of ‘Mother Nature’.  She has been called the Lady of the Lotus by Buddhists as well as Ashra, Theodora, Sophie and Isis, in cultures, faiths and religions throughout the world for many centuries. The ancient Greeks called her Gaea, the Mother Goddess.  Ge was another name she was known by.  The Romans referred to her as ‘Terra Mater’, the Mother of Earth.

B

BANSHEE
The word ‘banshee’ originates from a Celtic word meaning ‘woman of the fairy’.  Banshees are most noted for their piercing wail said to break glass for miles around, alerting families to the death of a relative.
The sound of the wailing is said to do with the density of the fog and the speed of the spirit moving from the physical body into the realm of spirit.

BI-LOCATE  (BI-LOCATION)
To bi-locate is the ability to be in two (or more) places at once.
This is able to be achieved in the spirit realm but not in the physical/material world when we are in human form.

BIRTH SIGN
The Birth Sign is also known as the Sun Sign in Astrology.  This is the astrological sign that the sun was in at the time you were born.

BLEED-THROUGH
A bleed-through is an event in which two separate times or dimensions come together with such intense spiritual force that for a brief time they meet, meld and blend together and become one.

C

CHAKRAS
The word chakra is Sanskrit for ‘vortex’ or ‘wheel’.  The chakras are energy centres within our physical bodies.  There are 7 major chakras between the crown (or top) of the head, to the base of the spine.  There are another 42 or so minor chakras and more in the aura.

Each of the 7 chakras correspond to a major endocrine gland in the body and each of them control specific physical areas and functions.

CELL MEMORY
Cell Memory is the entire body of knowledge that our spirit minds have gathered during all our past lives, infused and reacted to by every cell in the physical body the moment the spirit enters the fetus.

Our spirit minds remember every moment we’ve experienced in this life and every other life we’ve lived since we were created.

CHANNEL / CHANNELING

CHANT / CHANTING
Repetitive, short, simple words, an affirmation, or sounds used to help attain a deeper spiritual or meditative state.

CHART
Our Chart (or Blueprint) is the ‘script’ we wrote for ourselves before incarnating into this lifetime.  It is the guideline by which we live our lives, and charts all that we will do, experience and learn during our lives.

CHI
Chi is the positive Universal energy that flows through the body’s vital organs and circulates through the entire body. Chi is positive energy.

CLAIRAUDIENCE
Clairaudience is a French word that means ‘clear hearing’.  Clairaudience is the ability to hear things that originate in another dimension.  It is the definite audio-perception of actual sounds and words.

CLAIRSENTIENCE
Clairsentience is the ability to receive a silent thought, message or projected emotion from nearby or from other dimensions, and experience it as an actual physical and emotional sensation.  Clairsentience is sometimes called ‘clear thinking’ or ‘clear knowing’.

CLAIRVOYANCE
Clairvoyance is the ability to see things, objects or information that originates from another dimension.  Sometimes this is called ‘clear seeing.’

Clairvoyant visions originate in other dimensions, and earth is the only dimension where we have the concept of ‘time’.  Everywhere else there is nothing but ‘now’, so past, present and future are not necessarily factored into a vision.  This is why it is often difficult for clairvoyants to predict an exact date or time.

COCOONING
Some spirits have a difficult transition to the Other Side once the physical body has died.  When this happens there are spirits on the Other Side who are trained to provide a quiet, loving procedure called ‘cocooning’.

During cocooning the spirit is put into a healing twilight sleep and receives constant and empowering love.  The spirit is cocooned for as long as it takes for it to be healthy and whole again.  It then awakens healed, exhilarated and joyful.

COINCIDENCE
Because we don’t fully understand the significance of ‘coincidences’ when they occur in our lives, we rarely give much thought to these fairly common experiences.
What a coincidence consists of is:
* having a thought
* seeing it manifest itself shortly after the thought has occurred.

For a fleeting moment we have a clear memory of the Chart we wrote before we incarnated into this lifetime.

COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUS
The ‘collective unconscious’ is a theory by Carl Jung, that all of mankind share a range of ideas, symbols and archetypes that form the world’s myths and belief systems.

CONTEMPLATION
Deep thought or inner-reflection as a type of prayer or meditation.

COSMIC OTHER SIDE (THE)
The Cosmic Other Side is as identical reflection of the Universe as our Other Side is of Earth.  The residents of the Other Side are the most highly advanced in the Universe.

COUNCIL (THE)
The Council, also known as the Elders, the Master Teachers or the Lords of Karma, is a phylum of eighteen highly advanced spirits who essentially act as ‘God’s voice’ on the Other Side.

Like the phylum of Angels, the eighteen Council members never incarnate, and their sacred titles are appointed for eternity. The Council is not a governing body, but rather, because of the wisdom of the Council membership is as infinite as their love for us, they are entrusted with responsibilities that profoundly affect both life on the Other Side, and our lives here on earth.

It is to the Council that we present the rough drafts for their divine guidance as one of our final steps before incarnating.  They talk us through every detail of our Chart.  It is the Council’s responsibility to assign the specific Angels who will watch over and protect us during our journey on the earth plane.

COVEN
A coven is a gathering of witches, warlocks and/or wiccans for the purpose of worshipping Mother Earth.  With this they study, learn and deepen their appreciation for the rites, spirituality, history, theology, mythology and traditions of ‘witchcraft’.

Wiccans pray to the ‘Goddess’, to Mother Nature, find divinity in all living things, concern themselves with the environment, the ecology and with nurturing the planet.

Their rituals are aimed at favourable weather, the fertility of the Earth, the purity of the air and water, the successful growth and harvest of crops, and the over-all well-being of the resources we have on Earth.

CREATIVE VISUALIZATION
Creative visualization is the method of using images to help one to achieve their goals.  This is often used during meditation, prayer or deep relaxation.

CRYSTALS
Crystals and other natural gems are formed in the earth over countless millennia.  The energy they have absorbed during their formation is ancient, rich and potent, and their atoms are arranged with geometric precision.

Some crystals align the magnetic fields of the earth as the crystal naturally vibrates it’s own energy.  This energizes it’s environment and anyone and anything in close proximity.  Because of the potent energy they emit, crystals are capable of balancing human energy amongst other things.Crystals emit negative ions which help create uplifting and harmonious feelings.  As a personal tool for transformation crystals can be used to amplify, store, transmit and focus your thoughts, emotions and desires, ultimately manifesting them into reality.  Crystals bring about clarity, stimulate our resources to cope, and bring about a state of peace and balance into our life.

CULTS
Cults are a group of people, usually (always) led by a self-confessed ‘guru’ of some sort with the view to manipulating people out of the money, their lives and their souls, for their own gains.

CURSES

D

DARK SIDE  (THE) (Dark Energies)
The Dark Side is a segment of the spirit world made up of those who have rejected the ‘Light’. The Dark Side exists in both human and spirit form.  In human form they look exactly like anyone else.  In spirit form their negative energy can deeply affect everything from mechanical and electrical devices, to our mental health.

DHARMA
The word ‘dharma’ originated in the ancient Sanskrit language, and its basic meaning is ‘protection’, in a proactive sense.

Protecting ourselves from unhappiness is no one’s responsibility but our own, and this is accomplished not by a physical force but by living within our own inner laws of righteousness, tolerance and peace.

Dharma dictates absolute honour for all living things and the land that nourishes them.  It is based on the idealistic premise that mankind will rise to its own innate, sacred goodness when shown the way to its spiritual path.

When we live outside the bounds of our own divine dharma we are out of sync with the Universe and pay the price in the form of stress, bitterness, misery, frustration and sadness, regardless of how much wealth and/or success you may have accumulated.

DISCARNATE SPIRIT
A discarnate spirit is a spirit without a physical body.  eg. a ghost.

DEJA VU
Deja vu is a fleeting glimpse into our other lives, on earth and on the Other Side.

There are two kinds of déjà vu.

The first occurs when you visit a certain place, house, foreign country or somewhere that you know you’ve never been to before, and suddenly realize that it is very familiar. When we experience this intense familiarity with an unfamiliar place, it is our spirit’s memories of a past life.  When the spirit memories build in the subconscious are stirred so deeply by sights from a whole other incarnation, those memories emerge into the conscious mind. This same kind of déjà vu applies to people as well.  We all know people who have seemed familiar the moment we meet them.

The second kind of déjà vu consists of a moment in which every single detail, from what you are doing and saying to what you are wearing, the surrounds and what you are thinking are so familiar that you are absolutely positive that you are re-living an exact duplicate of a moment from your past. These instances never last longer than a few seconds.  The moment is always gone in less time than it too us to notice it.

When déjà vu occurs we are experiencing a spirit memory of a trivial detail from the Chart (or Blueprint) we created on the Other Side before we incarnated.  For that instant both our subconscious and conscious minds are receiving an affirmation in the form of déjà vu that we are in perfect sync with our Chart.

DISTANT HEALING
Distant healing is the ability to give and/or receive ‘healing’ from a distance.  This is where the client/patient/person/animal does not have to be in the vicinity of the healer for the healing affects to take place.  The healing is projected to the person/animal who is being healed.

DOWSER
A dowser is a person who dowses.

DREAMS
Generally, there are five (5) categories of dreams:  Release Dreams, Wish Dreams, Prophetic Dreams, Information or Problem Solving Dreams and Astral Travels/Visits.

E

EARTHBOUND SPIRIT
An earthbound spirit is another name for a ghost or spirit that has left its physical body, but is unable or unwilling to enter the ‘tunnel’.  As a result of this, the spirit remains earthbound.

ECTOPLASM
Ectoplasm is thought to be the tangible residue of energy that is transmitted between a psychic/medium and a ghost or spirit.  It is the etheric matter that spirits/ghosts produce to make themselves visible to living beings.

Another theory is that ectoplasm originates in the earthbound and is the manifestation of the ghost’s own etheric substance caught between dimensions.

From personal experience, one is able to come into contact with ectoplasm during ‘trance’ work and contact with spirit during meditation and the like.  It has a sticky, cob-web-spider-web-like feeling and gives the impression of clinging to you.  (hard to describe…)

ESSENCE
Essence = I AM

ETHERIC SUBSTANCE
The etheric substance is the energy that permeates and emanates from every space in the Universe and every space within us all.

E S P
E S P stands for ‘extra-sensory perception’.  ESP is a means of knowing that something is going to happen before it does.  It also describes perceptions of thought and experiences without using any of the 5 basic human senses.

EXIT POINTS
When we are compiling our Blueprints (or Charts) before our incarnation, we generally write in five possible ‘Exit Points’, or escape routes. Exit Points are circumstances we pre-arranged that can result in the end of this incarnation, if we choose to take advantage of them.

The most obvious Exit Points include critical illnesses and/or surgeries, potentially fatal accidents and any other events that could/should have resulted in death – but didn’t.  This is because subconsciously on a soul level, we chose not to take the Exit Point at that time.

Other Exit Points are not so obvious and we may not consciously recognize them; for example deciding to take a different route to or from work;  a trivial delay that keeps you from leaving home on time;  a last minute change to a travel itinerary or cancellation … countless incidents that may seem meaningless could easily be a subconscious memory of an Exit Point that we wrote into our Chart, but decided not to take when it presented.

Another way memories of our Exit Points sometimes surface is in the form of recurring dreams.  Pay close attention to any recurring dreams about an unfamiliar but very specific person, place or situation that makes you feel uneasy.  If that dream ends up manifesting itself in real life it may mean the dream was prophetic.  Just as often it’s the memory of an Exit Point coming up for you and you are about to have a life or death choice to make.

EXTRA-TERRESTRIALS
We are definitely not the only inhabited planet in the Universe.

EXORCISM
The driving out of an unwanted and unwelcome spirit.

F

FREE ASSOCIATION
Free association is the method of saying or writing the first thing that comes to mind in response to a word or picture.

G

GHOSTS
Ghosts are discarnate spirits.  For a variety of very personal reasons, some spirits either see the tunnel and white light and reject it, or refuse to acknowledge it at all, which leaves them stranded here on the earthplane outside of their bodies, caught between the lower vibrational level we exist in on earth, and the much higher-frequency vibrational level of the Other Side.

GRAPHOLOGY
Graphology is the examination and analysis of a person’s handwriting to determine that person’s personality and character.

GUARDIAN ANGELS / SPIRIT GUIDES
In addition to mapping out our Blueprints before coming here, we make sacred contracts with entities on the Other Side to watch over us, protect us, help and advise us through this earthly journey we have chosen to undertake.

The most intimate of these advisors helps us to conceive and review our blueprint with us  -  and is at our side every step of the way  -
is our Guardian Angel or ‘Spirit Guide’.

Your relationship with your Guardian Angel/Spirit Guide was formed between your spirit and theirs on the Other Side before you were born.

Every one of us has a Guardian Angel/Spirit Guide; someone we were very close to and trusted with our soul on the Other Side. Our Spirit Guides/Guardian Angel/s, who agreed to be our constant, vigilant companion and helpmate when we made the choice to experience another lifetime on Earth, are the best friends we have ever had.

Spirit Guides have spent at least one lifetime on Earth.  Because of this they are able to empathize with the mistakes, problems, fears and temptations and all the frailties we encounter in the human world.

The Guardian Angel/Spirit Guide’s job is to urge, encourage, nudge, support, advise and ‘guide’ us on our lives’ path.

Guardian Angels/Spirit Guides send you ‘messages’, often through your subconscious mind.  What you have always accepted as instincts or your conscience or unusually vivid dreams are your Spirit Guides sending you messages.

Spirit Guides and all other transcended spirits are either male or female.

GUIDED IMAGERY
Guided imagery is usually in the form of meditation.  A guided meditation uses inspiring imagination in a focused and directed way to achieve goals and to heal the mind and body.

GLOSSOLALIA
Glossolalia is ‘talking in tongues’.  ‘Talking in tongues’ is a practice still observed in some religious sects in which a person is elevated to a state of ecstasy that seems to trigger a stream of incomprehensible syllables unrelated to any known language, past or present.

A place is deemed to be ‘haunted’ if there is a discarnate spirit or ghost in residence.

HEALER
A ‘healer’ is a person who is able to channel healing energies and direct them to someone in need of ‘healing’, be that physically, mentally and/or spirituality.

HOLDING PLACE (THE)
The ‘Holding Place’ is where some spirits go after they leave the physical body upon death.  They do not instantly go to the Other Side, but rather, stay in limbo. The residents of the Holding Place are generally suicide victims or severe drug addicts.

HOROSCOPE
The studying of the Horoscope is an ancient art charting the cycles of the Universe and the positions of the planets at the time of birth, to forecast, predict and draw a distinct impression of the personality and the Life Path.

The Horoscope, Astrology Chart or Zodiac is made up of twelve sun or natal signs; each with its own ruling planet and a specific segment of the calendar, called ‘Houses’.

HOST OF HEAVEN
The term ‘Host of Heaven’ is a phrase used frequently throughout Judaism, Islam and Christianity.  Some believe the Host of Heaven is the Universe, and particularly the stars.  Others are convinced that the ‘Host of Heaven’ is God’s legion of Angels.

In Ancient times it was thought by many faiths to be a close connection between the stars and angels in heaven, some believing that there was a star in the sky for each Angel in heaven.  Others embraced the notion that the stars were the eyes of angels watching over us. For others still, the ‘Host of Heaven’ includes all the most advanced beings on the Other Side.

HYPNOSIS
Hypnosis is a procedure by which the conscious mind is suppressed enough that underlying information held in the subconscious and/or the spirit mind can be assessed.

HYPNOTIST / HYPNOTHERAPIST
A hypnotherapist or hypnotist is someone trained to hypnotize.

I

I CHING
The Eastern hemisphere has used the I Ching, or Book of Change (amongst other names) when pondering the best course of action to take in certain situations. Eastern countries such as China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam have relied upon the Book of Change, from remote antiquity until the present day, to help them make decisions.

The philosophies and laws of transformation illustrating the cycles of existence that humans normally encounter during their lives were recorded in written/book form as the Book of Change/s about 3,000 years ago.

The I Ching was handed down from generation to generation as oral parables, for not less than 3,000 years. It was reputed to have first been written down in book form in around 1123 BC, by King Wen and his son the Duke of Chou.  At a later date the great sage Confucius added his own commentaries.

The I Ching was created by the Chinese to help us (humanity) point ourselves in the right direction in our daily lives, in the present moment.  Based on the principle that everything changes constantly, the I Ching teaches us how, when and where to act.  The I Ching deals with the situations in life that we meet everyday.  These 'situations' are regarded as 'fields of energy' in which various forces are at work, creating a particular state of affairs.  If your want or desire is to change the situation, you must first do whatever is needed within in order to change the underlying energy flow.  This approach benefits the situation in a positive manner, on an energetic level.

The I Ching identifies the forces at work and recommends the most appropriate action or attitude under the circumstances. The I Ching tells you what needs to happen in order for things to change for the better in your life.

In the Chinese culture, change was always regarded as an intrinsic part of the flow of life.  In today's society we can learn a great deal from this approach.  In the Western world the tendency is to often experience change as 'threatening' rather than 'challenging'.  As a result, we often fail to see the possibilities and opportunities that may present themselves in the new and changed situation.  The I Ching indicates and informs us of how we can cope with change in the most honest, intelligent and harmonious way.

To grasp the concept of the I Ching it is imperative to understand that in Chinese thought and belief, there are two basic principles in life;  the masculine or Yang force and the feminine Yin.  The I Ching contains 64 hexagrams, or figures of six lines, in different combinations.  There are two types of lines, broken and unbroken, representing the Yin and Yang principles.  The hexagrams, each of which has a name, are said to depict every possible type of situation one may meet in life.  In other words, any situation you may encounter in this lifetime will be made up of a particular combination of Yin and Yang forces  -  the resulting hexagram reflecting the wisdom which already exists in your subconscious mind, but is hidden from view.

The I Ching has its own methods and traditions involved when consulting the Oracle.  The questions you ask and the guidance you seek needs to be seriously considered and meditated upon prior to the consultation.

IMITATIVE MAGIC
Imitative Magic has its origins in ancient times among primitive cultures.  It is still practiced throughout the world today, predominantly by many Native American and African tribes, as well as the Australian Aborigines and Wiccans and Pagans.

The theory behind imitative magic is simple.  The ‘practitioner’ or ‘magician’ acts out the result they are hoping for, often (but not necessarily) in the course of a ceremonial ritual.  eg. raindances, successful hunt rituals and dances.

Wiccans and Pagans have used imitative magic within their rites and rituals from the earliest of times.  For centuries ‘witches’ have ridden broomsticks (which they use to sweep away negative energies) through newly sown fields, jumping as high as they can to give the crop an ‘image’ of how high they would like it to grow. (This is where the image and/or archetype of witches riding broomsticks and flying in the sky originated)

INVOCATION
An invocation is a formal greeting or prayer to call upon the presence of spirits.

IMPRINTS
An imprint is an intensely concentrated pocket of energy – a site at which some extremely dramatic event/s has taken place with such profound impact that the images and emotions from those events literally become a part of the land and the atmosphere at the site itself.  Not only do those images and emotions become self-sustaining over the years, but everyone who experiences the powerful effect of the imprinted images and emotions and strongly reacts also lends even more energy to the imprint and helps perpetuate it.

INFUSED KNOWLEDGE
Infused knowledge is the phenomenon in which information is directly transferred from one mind to another, with no involvement at all from the five physical senses.

Infused knowledge is one of the most common ways that the spirit world on the Other Side communicates with our spirit minds.

K

KAMI
A Kami is the spirit of a departed loved one whose energy remains within the family and community.

KARMA
Karma is sometimes regarded as the ‘sister’ of Dharma.  Karma is a Universal Law … it is the Law of Cause and Effect.  It is the basic premise of ‘what goes around comes around’ and ‘reap what you sow’.  With the concept of karma, motives are a major factor when it comes to reaping what you sow.

There is no such thing as ‘getting away with it’ when it comes to karma.

‘Good karma’ accrues as you live your life with truth, honour and integrity and all they entail.

Present Karma  (Agami)
Agami takes place in the present and consists of everything you do today that creates cause and effect tomorrow (in the future). Everyday you are creating karma with every thought, intention and deed. With every thought, word and action you are making a choice as to whether you create positive or negative karma in your life. Be aware of how important your thoughts and behaviour are to the quality of your own life.

Past Karma  (Prarabdha)
Accumulated Karma  (Sanchita)

'Reincarnation' comes from the Latin work 'caro', which means 'to be in the flesh', and 're', which means 'again'. Reincarnation is 'to be in the flesh again'.

KARMIC LESSONS
Karmic Lessons are the lessons that your soul chose prior to incarnating, in order to experience and learn from them for the advancement of the soul.

KINDRED SOUL
We each have many kindred souls who enter our lives at different times.  Kindred souls are spirits that you have known in one or more past lives. Kindred souls (kindred spirits) are souls that have a very deep love for each other.  We can have many, many kindred souls that we can relate to, but we generally have only the one soulmate.  If you have a deep, loving friendship with someone in this lifetime it is most likely that you are kindred spirits (kindred souls).

KINETIC ENERGY
Kinetic energy is the unintentional, spontaneous manipulation of inanimate objects through no obvious physical means, causing its possessor to become kind of a walking force field.

Kinetic energy is often at its strongest when the body is going through dramatic hormonal changes  -  during pre-pubescence or puberty, or in pregnant or menopausal women.  It can also manifest itself in young children.

KIRILIAN PHOTOGRAPHY
Kirilian photography is a method of capturing on film the auras, or energy patterns, that surround all living things.

It was discovered by two Russian scientists, Semyon and Valentina Kirilian in 1939.  It involves passing a high frequency electrical current through an object while photographing the object either directly or through glass.  The result is an image of the object, along with coloured auras around them that are capable of indicating illness, stress and other emotional and physical afflictions.

L

LEFT DOOR (THE)
When a person on the ‘Dark Side’ dies, the spirit never experiences the ‘tunnel’ and the sacred light at its end.  Instead, the dark spirit is propelled straight through the Other Side’s Left Door. Behind the Left Door is an abyss of darkness, joylessness and all-encompassing nothingness.

The only permanent residents of this abyss are faceless beings in hooded cloaks who’ve become the archetype for the persona of Death – the Grim Reaper.  These beings function as a ‘council’ overseeing the paths of the spirits who make a brief appearance in their presence.

The dark spirits time in the void behind the Left Door is very brief.  Left Door spirits travel straight from their bodies at death through the Left Door, then right back in-utero again on a self-inflicted horseshoe-shaped journey.

LEMURIA
Lemuria was a continent of the Pacific that sank to the bottom of the ocean thousands of years ago.  Many believe it was/is located between Madagascar and Malaysia in the Indian Ocean.

It is said that Lemuria existed prior to and during the time of Atlantis and was destroyed in an apocalyptic series of volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis.

LEVITATION
Levitation is the phenomenon in which the human body is physically elevated into the air and suspended there for a discernible length of time, without the use of any external or artificial device/s.

LIFE FORCE
The Life Force is that energy within us and the entirety of creation that makes us ‘alive’.

LIFE THEMES
Our ‘Life Theme’ is the specific purpose/s we are hoping to achieve in our incarnation (present life);  and we also generally have a primary and  secondary theme.

The primary theme is who we plan to be.  The secondary theme is another aspect of ourselves we’ll have to deal with along the way.  The primary theme defines our basic itinerary and the secondary life theme is an ongoing obstacle we will be faced with.

There are 44 different Life Themes
(more to come on those …)

MAJOR ARCANA
The word ‘arcana’ is the plural of ‘arcanum’, which means ‘profound secret’.  To the alchemists of the Middle Ages, the ‘arcanum’ was the ‘secret of nature’.  Therefore, the Tarot is a collection of the ‘secrets’ that underlie and explain our complex Universe.

The Major Arcana consists of twenty-two cards numbered 0 to 21.  The twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana are considered to hold in-depth knowledge and relate to a ‘higher plane’;  that is, they often signify a spiritual aspect of our lives or an important trend in our life’s journey.

The Major Arcana alone can interpret their messages regarding the soul’s journey through life, and the archetypal aspects of your character.  The Major Arcana symbolizes the aspects of the Universal human experiences.  They represent the archetypes and patterns of influence that are an inherent part of human nature.

The symbols of the Major Arcana represent every experience and underlying influences that man can encounter on the earthplane.  These are circumstances which are out of human control and are more commonly referred to as ‘destiny’ and ‘fate’.  They also represent things which are not apparent in day-to-day life, but which are hidden from view in the subconscious.

The Major Arcana is considered the ‘journey of life’, from the innocence and wonder of childhood, through the tests, trials and tribulations to maturity, and then onto old age, death and spiritual transcendence.  The Major Arcana reflects the path in life by using Universal symbolism.

The twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana are considered to hold in-depth knowledge and relate to a higher plane:  that is, they often signify a spiritual aspect of our lives, or an important trend in our life’s journey.  Most aspects of human experience are found in the Major Arcana cards.

The cards reflect our life’s journey from birth to death, mirroring the path from naivety to experience and self knowledge.  Most aspects of human experience are found in these cards.

MANDALA
The word Mandala originates from the Sanskrit and means holy, magical, or sacred circle.  A Mandala is a painting, drawing or structure that is created in a circle with symmetrical circles and patterns radiating out from the centre. This series of concentric forms creates a passage way between dimensions and pertains not only to the earth but to the macrocosm and microcosm. From the largest structural process to the smallest, it is the gatepost between the two.

The circle is the eternal flow of Cosmic energy that flows within and without, like the In breath and the Out breath. It is the pulsating circle that infuses all of life. It is the symbol of God, the Universe, the elements, the four directions, the four winds, the stars and planets, and the cosmos all being encompassed in this Divine dance and flow of life. So when we look at a Mandala it resonates with our all knowing self and triggers unity consciousness. When we work within a mandala like a medicine wheel, or grow our plants in one, having stepped into a scared space we are given the opportunity to step through the gateway resonating with wholeness and all the energies are in balance.

Mandalas have been used for thousands of years in Earths' known history and eternally in Cosmic Time, as all of creation is a mandala. Observe in nature the flower, the fruits, a birds' nest, a spiders' web. Snow crystals, a cross section of a twig, an eye, the cells of the body. The Galaxies and the Earth, and the cycle of the Moon are all living mandalas. The Mandala is the symbol of the round of life and death of the cosmic procession of beings, planets and stars, of earthly seasons and galactic.
Apart from the Mandalas of nature we also have man made Mandalas of the standing stone circles such as Stone Henge. That measure the equinoxes and solstices and is used to align these energies through the vortex it was built on, through the Earth Grids and humans.

The Mayan Calendar is a cosmic mandala of time and space, which attunes us with the cyclic flow of the solar system and cosmos.

Our Astrological Chart is our own personal mandala of the energies that we have come in with in this life to express, transcend and balance.

The American Indian Medicine Wheel, a mandala of the four elements, four directions, and in the centre the Spirit and Earth merge, is a transformational tool to use in healing and awakening.

Labyrinths in Cathedrals, Navajo sand paintings, Tibetan mandalas like the Kalachakra initiation, the Tibetan Wheel of Life, the Tao Yin/Yang Symbol, and Chinese Elements Wheel, Mandalas of the Chakras from ancient Indian Sanskrit, and Celtic Spirals. Like the hexagon or six pointed star, the mandala is a Cosmic diagram coordinating the cycles of space and time, uniting the way of heaven with the way of earth. "As Above so Below".

The aura has a series of layers and ‘meridians’ which are channels which convey energy around the body. According to ancient Chinese medicine, there are 14 meridians that carry ‘chi’ throughout the body.

MERGING
Merging occurs on the Other Side.  It is the blending of our spirits with that of another ‘living’ entity.  Merging means ‘fully experiencing’ or ‘becoming one with’.

Merging between two spirits on the Other Side has nothing to do with sex at all … it is a blending together of spirituality, physically and emotionally to a state of mutual bliss without either spirit losing its own identity.

During an act of merging each spirit shares another’s wisdom, history, passion, sorrow, history and joy, so between the two spirits there is ultimate, all-encompassing ‘knowing’.

The Minor Arcana cards deal with day-to-day issues and assists with providing a clearer picture of the story that the Major Arcana cards are trying to tell.  They are considered to be less complicated than the Major Arcana cards.  The court cards provide information on personality types (or archetypes) that may be in your life, or about to enter into it.

The Minor Arcana shows the day-to-day events and how these affect you.  These are the things that compromise most of our lives, and although they often seem insignificant it is often our reaction to them that sets off major life changes.

Each number is influenced by a different planet in our Solar System.  Each letter of the alphabet vibrates to a given number, 1 – 9, which is also the span of our life cycles.  These numbers under which we were born plus the numbers in our names are the tools we are given in order that we may accomplish our mission or purpose in life, and enables us to work through all our Karmic Lessons.

The vibratory power of each number affects us in both positive and negative ways. Each number has a different vibration and can therefore give us a better understanding of one’s pathway, and the circumstances which surround our life.  It can direct one to the career best suited and can give us the opportunity to be more aware of the talents we have and of the ways we choose to utilize them.  It also tells us of the compatibility we have with another, especially who would be most compatible as a life-partner.  It tells you how you may best help your family and friends due to the numbers which control their lives aswell.

Numerology tells of our potential destiny, our natural talents, and helps us to gain a better understanding of ourselves and others.  It shows us the pathway we need to take in our lives to fulfill our potential and also tells us one of the many reasons why we each have different traits and characteristics.

2,400 years ago PYTHAGORAS was one of the ‘Fathers of Numerology’.  He was able to apply his knowledge and understanding in practical areas for the needs of mankind.  Pythagoras gained his knowledge of numbers from Egypt and the Near East.  Some researchers have found evidence that numerology was practiced in Egypt as far back as 13,000 years ago.

REIKI
Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is an ancient form of natural, holistic healing which was used in Tibet and the far East 6,000 years ago. Eastern religions considered it a sacred healing art and guarded against misuse by keeping the teachings and symbols secret. Only the ‘selected ones’ were taught and very few written records were made.

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator, rediscovered the technique encrypted among Sanskrit records in the late 1800s. Since then people all over the world have been taught to receive Universal Energy through their crown chakras (top of the head) and pass it through their bodies and out their hands into another’s body via the hands-on technique of Reiki.

Reiki is the ancient practice of ‘hands on’ energy healing. Healing with one’s hands is an art, or possibly a science, that finds documented testimonials of "miracles" predating Christianity by nearly a millennium. Universal Life-Force Energy fueled by the power of White Light is what energy-workers believe changes negative to positive, cures the sick, regenerates tissue and accelerates the body’s own natural healing process.

The Runes are a part of a system of Spiritual belief of the Norse that is older than Christianity and is as beautiful and complex as the Buddhist thinking of the Hindu and those of the Eastern traditions. Thousands of years ago the Runes evolved in a culture that understood the essential elements of life;  the balance of personal power through self-mastery.

The Runes, since their inception some 3 thousand years ago, have taken on a variety of ritualistic functions.  There were Runes that influenced and corresponded with almost every aspect of human life, including birth Runes, death Runes, weather Runes, health Runes and love and marriage Runes.

Runes were inscribed on amulets for protection, courage and luck in battle.  They were employed for legal documents, for writing poetry, for invocations and divinations.

Each Runes is encoded with primal symbols which speak to our collective consciousness through shape, idea, meaning and intuition.  Ancient symbols and meanings lay behind each Rune and they are very powerful on their own, or reading in conjunction with others to tell a story or give guidance.

Runes give insight and wisdom, which in turn teaches decision-making skills and gives us the tools which enable us to assess, consider and make wise choices for today and the future.  The most beneficial gain of utilizing the Runes is self-empowerment, and with that comes personal responsibility.

SOULMATES, TWIN FLAMES AND KINDRED SPIRITS
When we are created we are intrinsically whole.  Soulmates are those who come into our lives to share experiences, relationships and life lessons with us. Soulmates comes together when both souls have determined that the time is right for this duality relationship to occur. Soulmates exist singularly until they have reached their own chosen level of evolvement.  When the time is right the two souls merge.

Your Twin Flame is the other half of your soul.  Most of the time your Twin Flame is not incarnate at the same time as you are, but stays in the ethers as a guide and a kind of caretaker. Occasionally however, both you and your Twin Flame do incarnate at the same time.  As stated, this is rare.  When it does happen, however that person is NOT necessarily your ideal mate or life partner. Your literal 'other half' embodies everything you are and usually reflects EVERYTHING you do not like about yourself.  Most people mistake Twin Flame for their Soulmate.  With your Twin Flame there is chaos:  one can be attached, a vast age difference, different locations, or the person has some serious issues and is afraid to open up to the energy because the bond is too intense.

SPIRIT GUIDE/S
Our Spirit Guides are souls we trusted with our own soul on the Other Side, who agreed to be our constant, vigilant companion and helpmate when we made the choice to experience another lifetime on earth. Your relationship with your Spirit Guide was formed between your spirit and theirs on the Other Side before you were born.

All Spirit Guides have experienced at least one incarnation so they are able to empathize with the problems, mistakes, temptations, fears and falibilities we encounter in the human world. The Spirit Guide’s job is to encourage, advise and support us towards the goals we have set for ourselves in this incarnation.

STIGMATA
Stigmatas are manifestations of wounds on the body that correspond to Christ’s wounds during the crucifixion on his hands, feet, side of his chest and his forehead.  When actual marks or blood appear the phenomenon is called ‘visible stigmata’.  ‘Invisible stigmata’ is when no marks, wounds or blood can be seen but severe pain suddenly hits those same specific areas.

The Hermetic tradition believes the Tarot to be thousands of years old. It comes to us through the Gypsies and can be traced back to the religious symbols of the Egyptians. Over the centuries the Tarot has been seen as a spiritual guide.  In medieval Europe it was regarded with suspicion as the early Christians associated it with ‘witchcraft’. As people became less superstitious and more open-minded, the Tarot became accepted as a tool for self-development, especially when used with meditation for clarity, insight and for the highest good.

Tarot cards reflect life’s journey from birth to death, mirroring the path from naivety to experience and self knowledge.  Most aspects of human experience are found in the Tarot cards.

TELEPATHY
Telepathy is the direct, instantaneous passing of information, knowledge or feelings from one person or entity to another, without using the senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste or smell.  Silent transference takes place from a sender to a receiver (sometimes over great distances) and it can happen deliberately or without either the sender nor the receiver being aware of it.

The information is received in a variety of ways:  phrases or words that pop into the mind for no apparent reason, quick flashes of half-complete images, unusually vivid dreams, or a sudden preoccupation with a person we might not have seen, heard or thought of in a long time.

UNIVERSAL ENERGY FIELD
The universal Energy Field is the energy of all existence, which encompasses the physical and non-physical.

VOODOO
Voodoo has been practiced for thousands of years. Voodooists believe in a legion of spirits they call the ‘Loa’ who reside in all of nature and all natural phenomena, giving all living things sanctity and a connection to all other living things throughout the Universe. Voodooists believe we are all parts of the same ‘One’, so any action we take towards anyone or anything around us – cruel or kind – is an action taken towards ourselves.

Practitioners of Voodoo revere their ancestors whose spirits they believe are alive and present among them, and pay ceremonial homage through music and dance to the spirit world and the Divine.

VORTEX
Vortexes are most commonly seen in nature in the form of tornados and water spouts – masses of air or water spinning with such speed and force that they are able to pull any objects in their path into the void or ‘eye’ at the centre.

These spiraling masses of energy also exist in swirling vortexes of the earth’s power, usually unseen but dramatically perceived via sudden gravitational anomalies, seemingly impossible light and sound distortions, unexplainable contorted plant life and human effects ranging from dizziness to sudden deep introspection to euphoria.

According to some studies, there are ‘in-flow’ vortexes where the energy flows from space towards the Earth – and ‘up-flow’ vortexes in which the energy flows out of the Earth towards space.

WICCA / WITCHCRAFT / WITCHES / WARLOCKS
True witches and warlocks who practice ‘Wicca’ or ‘Witchcraft’ have a deep love of the Earth, its animals, plant life and all that the planet encompasses.  They believe that abusing the earth in any way is a form of sacrilege.  Essentially, they are pacifists.

Witchcraft is thought to date back to the Stone Age and for several millennia witches and their male counterparts Warlocks, were the village doctors, herbalists and counselors. In this day and age, true witches and warlocks still revere the earth and all its inhabitants and work for the highest good of all.

YIN and YANG
The concept of Yin and yang originated with philosophers in the Chinese Han Dynasty that ruled from 207BC until 9AD. Han philosophers asserted that the Universe is ruled by one principle which they called ‘Tao’.  That principle is divided into two equal opposites in the Universe belong to one of those two principles.

Yin encompasses such elements as femaleness, darkness, the Moon, submission, the Earth, cold etc. Yang encompasses maleness, light, the Sun, dominance, heaven, heat etc.

No element of one can exist without its counterpart or opposite in the other.

The symbol of Yin and Yang is a circle in which two fish – one black and one white – are encircling each other.  The fishes eyes are made prominent by the fact that the black fish has a white eye and the white fish has a black eye.  The two fish, Yin and Yang, represent the opposite, equal and complementary nature of the male/female principle.  Both fish’s eyes being open and visible represents the Yin/Yang belief that both the feminine and the masculine points of view are essential in the fullest possible understanding of life and its mysteries.
