The I CHING, TAROT, RUNES and NUMEROLOGY

Life is the same in many ways today as it was for the people who lived thousands of years ago. Just as the ancient folk of the Norse used the Runes for guidance, the Eastern hemisphere has used the I Ching, or Book of Change (amongst other names) when pondering the best course of action to take in certain situations. Eastern countries such as China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam have relied upon the Book of Change, from remote antiquity until the present day, to help them make decisions.

While the I Ching, which originated in China, evolved separately from the Runes and the Tarot, it can be cross-referenced to the Western disciplines to help us align ourselves harmoniously with worldwide philosophies. The Nordic Runes give us a grounded and earth-based spirituality, and can be directly aligned to a specific Tarot card and I Ching hexagram line.

I Ching hexagram. The philosophies and laws of transformation illustrating the cycles of existence that humans normally encounter during their lives, were recorded in written/book form as the Book of Change, about 3,000 years ago. As with the Runes, prior to this, the I Ching was handed down from generation to generation as oral parables, for not less than 3,000 years. It was reputed to have first been written down in book form at around 1123 BC, by King Wen and his son, the Duke of Chou. At a later date, the great sage Confucius added his own commentaries.

The I Ching was created by the Chinese to help us (humanity) point ourselves in the right direction in our daily lives, in the present moment. Based on the principle that everything changes constantly, the I Ching teaches us how, when and where to act. The I Ching deals with the situations in life that we meet everyday. These 'situations' are regarded as 'fields of energy' in which various forces are at work, creating a particular state of affairs. If your want or desire is to change the situation, you must first do whatever is needed within, in order to change the underlying energy flow. This approach benefits the situation in a positive manner, on an energetic level.

Like the Runes, the I Ching identifies the forces at work, and recommends the most appropriate action or attitude under the circumstances. Parallel to both the Tarot and the Runes, the I Ching tells you what needs to happen in order for things to change for the better in your life.

In the Chinese culture, as with that of the Norse, change was always regarded as an intrinsic part of the flow of life. In today's society, we can learn a great deal from this approach. We, in the Western world, tend to experience change as 'threatening', rather than 'challenging'. As a result, we often fail to see the possibilities and opportunities that may present themselves in the new and changed situation. The I Ching, again much like the Runes, indicates and informs us of how we can cope with change in the most honest, intelligent and harmonious way.

To grasp the concept of the I Ching it is imperative to understand that in Chinese thought and belief, there are two basic principles in life; the masculine or Yang force and the feminine Yin.

The I Ching contains 64 hexagrams, or figures of six lines in different combinations. There are two types of lines, broken and unbroken, representing the Yin and Yang principles. The hexagrams, each of which has a name, are said to depict every possible type of situation one may meet in life. In other words, any situation you may encounter in this lifetime, will be made up of a particular combination of Yin and Yang forces - the resulting hexagram reflecting the wisdom which already exists in your subconscious mind, but is hidden from view.

In theory, the forming of the hexagrams is similar to the Runic concept of the strands of the Web of Wyrd coming together to create and form the everyday situations in life.
Just like the Runes, the I Ching has its own methods and traditions involved when consulting the Oracle.

One ancient method requires the throwing of yarrow sticks - the way the sticks fall determines the appropriate answer.

Another method is to toss three (3) I Ching coins, then decipher and interpret the ones that fall face up, to obtain an answer.

Yet another valid and simple method is to open the Book of Change at any random page to find the appropriate answer to your question displayed before you.

I Ching cards (and Rune cards) which can be randomly drawn to receive an answer, have been developed for those who feel more comfortable with a Tarot-like system.

The Tarot is an ancient divinatory, predictive and meditation tool and guidance channel. It can be used similarly to the Runes and the I Ching, and it's basic themes and theories run parallel with both. Like the Runes, the Tarot's original author is unknown. It is also uncertain as to exactly where and when the Tarot came into existence, but some believe that it originated in Ancient Egypt about 3,500 years ago and was brought to Europe by the Rom, or Gypsies, as they travelled to Europe from India.

The actual word Tarot is made up of the two Egyptian words, 'Tar' meaning 'royal' and 'ot' meaning 'road' – the Royal Road (Destiny or Spiritual Pathway). The oracle's first appearance in Europe seems to have been in the late fourteenth century, most likely in Italy.

The Tarot was devised using the principles of the Cabala (the Tree of Life – Yggdrasil is displayed prominently within the deck), Astrology, the Elements and Numerology. The Tarot also incorporates and co-relates to the I Ching, colour and it's influence, the Chakras, the Runes and many other oracles of old. Symbolism plays an intricate part and is synonymous amongst all the oracles.

The increasing religious intolerance of the early Christians, and their attempts to suppress esoteric knowledge, wisdom and sacred truths from humanity, in order to instil and enforce their own 'Man's Law', forced the philosophers of the day to encrypt the esoteric secrets into the Tarot cards to keep the ancient wisdom, mysteries and truths hidden and safe from manipulation and persecution.

The Tarot consists of a deck of seventy eight (78) cards in total. This is made up of 22 Major Arcana cards numbered from 0 to 21 and the Minor Arcana of 56 cards.




The Major Arcana has direct relevance to the Hebrew Cabala because not only does the number of cards correspond to the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet, but many of the cards suggest symbolism for the Tree of Life (Yggdrasil)  that forms the basis of much of the Cabalistic wisdom. The Major Arcana depicts the different stages of life we must go through until our 'soul journey 'is complete. Throughout the nature of our existence on this planet as humans, we will encounter several beginnings and endings throughout our lifetime, that are represented by the archetypes portrayed on the cards. The Major Arcana depicts matters relating to the soul, spirit or destiny of our lives that often indicate karmic lessons and themes that we must experience in this lifetime. They point out issues that are occurring within our psyche, rather than external, everyday events, as depicted in the Minor Arcana.

The number of cards in the Major Arcana, 22, is also a Master Number in the science of Numerology.

The Minor Arcana consists of the remaining 56 cards, and depict the more ordinary details that form a meaningful pattern in our lives. They portray the day-to-day events in our daily lives. These events are not cataclysmic or life-changing situations, but rather the daily routines of family, home, work and survival.

The 56 cards of the Minor Arcana are divided into four sets of fourteen cards; each suit consisting of 10 numbered cards and 4 Court cards. The suits, Cups, Pentacles, Swords and Wands, co-relate to the four basic elements of life:
Water - Cups; Earth – Swords;
Air – Pentacles; and Water - Wands.

Again, similarities can be drawn with the Elderfuthark Runes with it's 3 tiered Aetts, each of which has it's own concept or theme.

Like the Runes and the I Ching, the Tarot when consulted, may sometimes give an answer which seems to have no relation to the question or query made. In these instances, the Higher Self may be trying to bring to light a situation that needs attention. For this reason, any response given, regardless of how unrelated it may seem, needs to be given careful consideration.

While the I Ching is considered to be fluid and changing, giving advice in much the same way as a wise friend or mentor would, and there are many close relations between the I Ching, the Tarot and the Ancient Elderfuthark Runes, that link their messages. All three modalities describe the different facets of a person’s life, and detail the various stages of transformation through the life cycle. All three oracles can help delve into the more subtle nuances of human behaviour and interaction.

The Nordic Runes offer us a grounded approach to our spirituality and are able to be aligned to a specific card in the Tarot, just like the I Ching, to give us a greater understanding of the oracles. Although all three oracles are separate entities of themselves, they are all intricately linked and carry the same spiritual values and solutions.

The Tarot and the Runes, the I Ching, when studied and used over time, will have the effect of increasing your intuitive abilities. All that is required to unravel the mysteries is your intuition and trust in your own interpretation.

RUNES AND NUMEROLOGY
Numerology is the study of numbers and the impact they play on our lives, as well as the frequency in which they appear. Numerology plays an intricate part in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of every human, everyday, whether they are conscious of it or not.

Each number symbolizes, indicates and resonates to a different vibrational energy, which influences our daily moods, pathways and choices – leading to our futures.

In the study of Numerology, the numbers 1 through 9 are considered to be 'compound'. The 0 makes up the compound number of 10, and is of great significance itself. Compound numbers are derived because they comprise qualities of all the numbers which they contain, as well as the overall number, which is derived when they are added together.

For example, the number 26 is computed by adding the digits in the number together (2 + 6) to come up with the primary number 8. The number 26 will also carry the secondary vibrations of the 2 and the 6, in addition to the main vibration of 8. Therefore, although 26 is the higher octave of 8, its vibrations are subtly different from other compound numbers that also add up to 8, such as 44 or 35.

Each Rune of the Elderfuthark, every card of the Tarot deck and the I Ching hexagrams are numbered and carry the energy and vibration of the relevant numbers.

Numerology


To work out your HOUSE NUMBER vibration, add the numbers of your address together, then reduce it to a single digit.  This single digit is your House Number.

For example:  A house or apartment number of 22 would be worked out as 2 + 2 = 4.  


4 is the House Number.

A house or apartment number of 326 would be calculated as:  3 + 2 + 6 = 11.  1 + 1 = 2.  The number 2 is the House Number.

1 HOUSE NUMBER

This house inspires drive and independence.  Under no circumstances clutter this house.  Keep furniture to a minimum and decorate in white or strong bright colours.  Keep windows clean and clear.

A number 1 house is likely to be the type of house which catches the attention of others as they pass.  These distinguishing features could be good or bad, both attracting attention.

People living in number 1 houses often use white, gold and orange in and around their homes.  You will often see guilded mirrors and crystal chandeliers, if money allows.

A number 1 house quite often belongs to a person with a high position in work, and to one who has a definite ambition.  It can sometimes be the home of someone notorious or famous.  A person who has not been well for sometime will improve in a number 1 house.

People who are not ‘snobs’ or members of the ‘upper crust’ may be brought in contact with these people.  Number 1 house people themselves can be ‘snobs’.

2 HOUSE NUMBER

A number 2 house is sure to be a very homely, comfortable and attractive home, with nice unpretentious people who are willing to share their hospitality with others. 

The number 2 house is often decorated with comfortable, cosy and tasteful furnishings, and has a loving and warm atmosphere. 

The 2 house has simple, nurturing foods in their cupboards, and share this with others freely.  There is seldom any sign of ostentation at a number 2 house.

Sympathetic influence of the 2 gives an affinity and feeling for the mass of average people, and there is often a real sense of community spirit present in this house.

Often children living here may not be your own, but other people’s who are drawn to your place.

A number 2 house is not a fixed, stable influence and there may be many changes and alterations affecting people in this house. 

The number 2 address inspires sensitivity, so compliment its energy with pinks, whites and creams. 

3 HOUSE

The Number 3 house expresses a desire for expansion and increase for the people who live there, with the result that one feels the need for plenty of room to move.

Number 3 houses give a great need for freedom and unrestricted living.  It is to be recognized that the Number 3 functions in both its positives and negative, so there will be honesty and dishonesty, gain and loss, controlled expansion and reckless gamble.

The 3 address is an interesting residence, as it symbolizes encouragement rather than discouragement.

This fun house inspires creativity and brings lots of visitors. 

Use wicker and cane furniture and keep colours fun with yellow and purple tones.

4 HOUSE

A number 4 House isn’t everyone’s cup of tea because the influence can be very overpowering.  Because of the diametrically opposing forces inherent in this number, the 4 house is likely to have some odd feature about it which should, but can not, easily be resolved.

There is often an effort made to transform the old-style appearance into a contemporary design, but this can be very difficult to achieve or can cause great disruptions to those living there.

Number 4 often produces a strong sense of frustration because it pulls in two directions.  Only persons with a strong positive character will be able to find the qualities of peace of mind and tranquillity in a number 4 house.

This influence can bring bigger upheavals and more disruptions than any other number, and more often happen through circumstances beyond one’s control. More than one person living in a number 4 house can be found to have completely different points of view and neither will give way to the other.  This can be very noticeable between the very conventional – ‘square’ parent, and a  –  way out ‘mod’ teenager. 

People who live in a number 4 house will have to work very hard,  and a standard conventional line of work is often tossed aside under the influence of the 4.  They then set about carving out some original niche for themselves.

The 4 home can attract financial or relationship problems, so negate that with attractive gardens and a brightly-coloured front door and letterbox.  Decorate with earthly colours such as brown, with touches of green, caramel and white.

5 HOUSE

A number 5 house is a very busy place, and one can feel a restless air of activity as soon as you walk in the door.  This is a home where people get together and talk about all sorts of things.  There are always people popping in and out, coming and going.   It can be like a miniature railway station. 5 can be an exciting address to live at, especially for singles. 

People who are connected with communication, news, information and transport all seem to be at home in a number 5 house. The telephone is an essential and much needed item in a number 5 house;  and this also applies to the car.  This is due to the restless nature of the number 5 because it likes to be out and about, circulating and making contact with people and places.

Children in a 5 house often have a great interest in bikes or motorbikes.  This number also tends to produce a highly-strung, rather nervous type of disposition and it does seem to be difficult to sit and do nothing in a number 5 house.

There is always something about the 5 house that you do not like.  Combat this by using bright colours on the walls, and camouflaging areas that are not to your taste.

6 HOUSE

This is certain to be a most attractive and/or artistically decorated house.  It may express, in some way, something of beauty, symmetry and refinement, to do with number 6.  There is usually a predominance of pastel shades in the basic colour scheme, and often a preference for pink or aqua  -  the overall effect being one of harmony and calmness.

In its negative aspect, 6 tends to overdo the decorative effects, often combining too many colours and therefore spoiling the effect.

As 6 is the number of equality and justice, consequently, to live in this house means that you will be repaid for past action.  Don’t forget, however, that the harvest will depend on the type of seeds that have been sown.

With the 6 energy of this house, those living in the home are also balanced under this influence.  Love and hatred, attraction and repulsion, are the positive and negative aspects of the number 6.  It is therefore likely that you will learn the meaning of one or the other, or maybe even both, while living in a number 6 house.

The 6 home is a lovely address for families and for artists and teachers.  Under the happy influence of this number, you will probably make some wonderful friends and have many enjoyable moments because it is the most favourable number for harmonious co-operation.  The closeness of family, pets and loved ones are felt in the 6 home.  Discord cannot survive for long in the kind of atmosphere in this house.

7 HOUSE

The 7 address inspires spirituality. 

The number 7 address is under very complex and very subtle influences.  The house can appear at first glance to be one thing, when in actual fact, it is the opposite.  There may be a part of the structure that is not instantly visible to the onlooker and in some cases, the structure is defective, though it may not be apparent.

The common problem with a number 7 house is dampness, or trouble with drainage.

Furniture should be minimal and you should decorate with touches of purple, orange and/or yellow.  Try to create a 'quiet room' with a bookcase, or have regular 'no TV' times to benefit the family from the energies of the 7 vibration.

8 HOUSE

A great address for everyone, particularly the self-employed and self-motivated.  This house will normally skyrocket in value or help those living there to accrue wealth. 

Try not to have anything shabby showing, and keep furniture as modern as you can.

Natural earthy shades with touches of red are ideal.

9 HOUSE

The 9 house enhances study and all students will do well living here.  The number 9 inspires ‘humanitarianism’ and this house will be open to bringing people in.  For example, if a friend or family member is in need, room will always be made for them in a 9 house.

A 9 house is prone to have electrical problems and burnt toast is a common occurrence.

Decorate in pale, calm colours and keep lots of houseplants.  Display trophies around the room to enhance success, and put out fresh flowers as often as you can.

BIRTH STONES - Stones and Crystals of the Months

Birth Stones and Crystals are not only associated with Astrology but with the Numerological co-relation of the 12 months of the year.

Very often the stone of the Zodiac is different than that of the Month.  The stones of the Zodiac are based upon Astrology, whereas the Birth Month stones are based upon ancient Numerological traditions.  The choice of a Zodiac stone sometimes conflicts with the Birth Month stone, and some of the stones also cross over to Astrology.

The origin and theory of the twelve monthly birth stones are believed to have originated in the Bible as they are found on the breastplates of Aaron.

JANUARY

The crystal for January is the red Garnet.  The red Garnet is named as the Birth Stone representing January in Polish, Arabic, Hebrew, Roman and Russian traditions. 

In ancient Hindu tradition, the stone for January is known as the ‘serpent stone’.  This was said to be either a Ruby or black stone.

FEBRUARY

The symbolic stone of February is the Amethyst. 

In ancient Hindu tradition, the stone for February was the ‘chandrakankta’ which is a stone that no one today has ever seen.

MARCH

The Aquamarine is the crystal for the month of March in many traditions and cultures. However, Roman, Arabic, Polish, Hebrew and Russian traditions name the stone for March as the Bloodstone.

In ancient Hindu tradition the stone for March was called ‘gold-sivalinga’, which is not a stone seen today.

APRIL

The Diamond is the birth stone for the month of April.

In Persian and Russian tradition the stone symbolizing April is the Sapphire.

MAY

The stone symbolizing the month of May is Emerald according the modern North American tradition. 

Ancient Hindu tradition also sees the Emerald as the stone for May, whilst Hebrew and Roman traditions name Agate as the stone for May.

JUNE

Many stones represent and symbolize the month of June, including the Moonstone, Pearl and Alexandrite.

Ancient Hebrew traditions claim the Pearl to be the birth stone for June, whilst in ancient Roman and Hebrew traditions the Emerald was named.  Agate is said to rule the month of June in Polish Russian and Arabic cultures.

JULY

The stone representing the month of July, according to modern North American, Polish and Russian cultures, is the Ruby.

Roman and Hebrew traditions name the Onyx as the stone for July, whereas in Arabic culture the Carnelian is attributed to July.  In Hindu tradition the stone for July is the Sapphire.

AUGUST

The month of August has many different stones associated with it.  Modern North American tradition sees the Peridot as the stone for August.

Roman and Hebrew traditions attribute the Carnelian to the month of August, and Polish and Arabic traditions name the Sardonyx as the stone representing August.  In Hindu tradition the Ruby is the stone associated with August, whilst Russian tradition assigns it to the Alexandrite.

SEPTEMBER

September is said to be ruled by the Sapphire in modern North American traditions.

In Roman, Hebrew, Polish, Russian and Arabic traditions the Peridot is stated as the stone for September. In Hindu traditions the stone representing September is the Zircon.

OCTOBER

The month of October is usually represented by the Opal and Tourmaline.

However Hebrew, Arabic, Polish and Roman traditions state that Aquamarine is the symbolic stone.  In Russian tradition the stone attributed to October is Beryl.  Ancient Hindu traditions name Coral as the stone representing the month of October.

NOVEMBER

The month of November sees Yellow Topaz and Citrine as its stones in modern North American culture.

The Roman, Hebrew, Arabic and Russian traditions attribute Topaz to November, and in Hindu traditions November is symbolized by the Cat’s Eye.

DECEMBER

The month of December has various stones attributed to it.  Modern North American tradition assigns a choice of the blue stones Tanzanite, Turquoise and Blue Topaz.

Russian and Polish tradition state that the stone for December is Turquoise. The Roman, Arabic and Hebrew traditions name the Ruby as the stone for December. In Hindu tradition, Topaz is the stone symbolizing the month of December.

The month we were born has a great influence on our character and gives an indication of  how our younger, more formative years will influence our adult lives. The events that occur can help to shape our life path which is in activation primarily from the ages of 28 to 56.

If you were born in January, the number 1 rules your early years.  You are independent, analytical and a born leader. However you can also be kind of thoughtless as you take action without consulting others. You are also creative and tend to stand out from the crowd.

If you were born in February, the number 2 will be important to you.  You are especially intuitive and seek balance and harmony throughout your life. A relationship means all to you and you will spend a lot of your life searching for your 'other half'. Women are especially influential on your character development in your early years.

If you were born during March, the number 3 will figure prominently in your life. You often find yourself in the right place at the right time. Number 3 is the essence of the Trinity - mind, body, spirit and is the threefold nature of divinity. The number 3 symbolizes the principle of 'growth' and signifies that there is a synthesis present – that imagination and an outpouring of energy is in action. 3 represents the principle of increase, expansion, growth and abundance on the physical, emotional, mental, financial and spiritual levels.


The number 3 refers to Ascended Masters (great spiritual teachers who once walked upon the Earth, as well as various religions’ deities.)


3 = the ‘Jesus connection’. When 3’s appear consistently it implies that the Ascended Masters are near you. They have responded to your prayers and wish to help and assist you.


33 is a Master number and it’s message is that ‘all things are possible’. If you happen to be considering a new venture or major life change, the Master number 33 tells you that if your purpose or reason for change is one of high order and your intentions are of a positive nature, your wishes will come to fruition and the changes will be successful with the help of your angels and the Universal energies.


With the number sequence 333 repeating, the message is to have faith in humanity. The Ascended Masters are working with you on all levels. They love, guide and protect you – always.
